Mouth of The Mannequin

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures:

Documenting Researcher: Dr. Adrian Reedmin.

SCP-XXXXs unit currently has a feeding door, preferably locked from the outside. While The Foundation is currently attempting to figure out what it eats, it is best to supply it with raw meat for the time being.

Also, note that SCP-XXXXs containment unit has two-way mirrors instead of windows. This is due to SCP-XXXX's manipulative shape-shifting abilities, and its reliance on vision to "Shift"

SCP-XXXX must be supplied with a source of crime-based literature at all times. This is the only known method that keeps it docile without using fear.

In the event of SCP-XXXX escaping, bring a flammable object, and a source of ignition. SCP-XXXX has an intense fear of flames, and will flee in the opposite direction of them. If there is no source of fire, electric shock or a strong magnetic force will do.

Description:

SCP-XXXX is a bipedal humanoid, approximately 2 meters in height. Its standard form resembles a mannequin. It has the ability to "shift" its form to that of a human, but will be stuck in said "shift" for exactly 96 hours. If it feels as though it is in danger, it can shift into a small animal to protect itself. Though this can only last a few moments, likely due to its size.

One consistent feature found on SCP-XXXX throughout all witnessed states is a mouth, situated on it's mid-section. The mouth itself is hidden behind a line of scar tissue, and has rows of large human teeth inside. When SCP-XXXX is exposed to blood, the mouth is revealed. It seems to be beyond SCP-XXXX's own control.

Upon seeing a human it perceives as a threat, SCP-XXXX will take the form of the human in question, or one in recent memory it believes will help it escape the threat. While in its "Shifted" state, SCP-XXXX has the ability to communicate in the English language, though its voice will not change to match the individual it has shifted to, giving its trick away to anyone who knows the individual. SCP-XXXX has a low, grinding voice, similar to the stereotypical mid-50's male smoker. Those, while in it's standard, mannequin state, it does not possess the ability for speech.

Through further experimentation, it has been discovered that SCP-XXXX has a rather unique trait. It prefers to stay in a human form, but, while in that "shift", it runs the risk of rapidly aging. The only countermeasure it has to this is the consumption of humans, through the aforementioned mouth on its stomach.[1] This allows it to stay "shifted" longer then the normal 96 hours. When SCP-XXXX consumes human meat, its human "shift" returns to it's original age, and stays as such until SCP-XXXX becomes hungry once again. It has been discovered that, unless SCP-XXXX is in a human "Shift", it is required that a constant source of food be supplied.

[1] It can survive short periods off wildlife or other forms of fresh, raw meat, but these will only sustain it for a short time. The longer it has to live like this, the more agitated it will become.

Should the supply of food be cut off, the plastic material that seems to make up the mannequin will begin to rapidly become UV Bleached, adopting a yellow tint and a number of cracks along it's body. In this state, it will remain panicked, frantically searching for any sign of food to bring itself back it's stable form. However, it is important to note that the subject does not seem to be capable of dying from starvation. It will simply remain in a frantic state, attempting to dig into the walls and floor to find something to consume.

Subject: My personal beliefs on SCP-XXXX

In the spirit of keeping my research and beliefs transparent with any who may need to read it, I feel as though I should come forward about my more personal beliefs as far as my experience with SCP-XXXX

As of now, my findings have been something of a wonder, at least in comparison to some of my other assignments. As long as the subject is kept docile, I would dare say they make for a wonderful conversation partner. Now, this is under some very strict conditions of course, and things were not always like this.

Initially, when I was assigned to this project, I was horrified. In fact, I needed several days to recover from my initial studies, as indicated in my "Initial Thoughts" report, which I will request be attached here. However, on returning from that brief stint and re-applying myself to the task, I've come to learn a great deal about SCP-XXXX.

For starters, even though they have been around for a great amount of years, they are entirely unaware of the advancements in modern technology. It seems as though they have a tendency to consume lost humans, usually in the woods, and then remaining out there unless absolutely necessary.

Their love for Crime-Based Literature seems to come from a deep-seeded necessity of understanding. They wish to understand humans, how they work, and most importantly, how they are found. It's likely that SCP-XXXX initially picked up the hobby in an attempt to learn how to better lure victims, and how to cover their tracks so they were not found. However, it seems to have simply become a good way to pass the time for them, as well as a viable method of sedation for us.

I firmly believe that this subject could be of serious use, if we could only find some way to maintain their "shifted" form, as I've dubbed it, without the need for human meat.

Further testing will be conducted as to their shifting capability, and I will report back as time goes on.

For now, I formally request that this email be included within the subjects document

Addendum 01

The Foundation has recently retrieved a list of previous incidents where SCP-XXXX has escaped containment, and has listed them appropriately:

Escaped location
Location found
Relocated to

Site 17
This is where the first recorded instance of the subject shape-shifting occurred. It used the form of a disgruntled employee to get out of the facility and into the population. It was later found and escorted to a more secure containment unit.
Site 23

Site 23
SCP-XXXX had been transported to this Site after being found unsecure in its previous location. Once again, it was able to escape containment due to the actions of █████, a Class-D employee, who SCP-XXXX stole the outfit of and consumed. It was discovered before it left the Site thanks to DNA scanning at Site checkpoints. Its punishment, once contained for transport once again, was to force it into a "Shift", and deny it the food it needed until it aged through almost one whole life cycle. This was necessary to keep SCP-XXXX docile through transport.
Site 19

Site 19
The subject has not yet managed to escape containment within Site 19, and has shown no signs of making any moves on escape.
N/A

These escapes each gave The Foundation more information about SCP-XXXX, which allowed them to create a proper containment environment within Site 19. After successful transport, the subject was fed and put into a restraining chair, which allowed an interview to be conducted. See INTERVIEW XXXX-01

Addendum 02:

Through further research, the reason SCP-XXXX has such a prominent fear of magnets has been uncovered. It seems that due to an advanced mutation in SCP-XXXXs brain, strong magnetic force causes its ██████ to shut down, rendering it completely immobile. Though, the magnetic force has to be equal or less then the magnetic force found in large electromagnetic cranes, or one would face the risk of causing SCP-XXXXs body to become unstable, provoking a blind rage in the subject.[2] The Foundation believes that, if co-operative, SCP-XXXX could be very valuable in the Retrieval of future subjects. See Magnetic Resilience Test Log 003 for further information.

[2] We will be removing segments of information that are deemed "not necessary" for the general public.

Addendum 03:

We have deemed it necessary to share the initial documentation put forward by Dr.Reedmin, as it may offer some insight to staff who may be assigned to watch over SCP-XXXX in the future. Please see 'Initial Thoughts: Dr. Reedmin personal log 001 for the information.

Begin Transcript

Dr. Reedmin: Thank you for agreeing to sit down with me here.

SCP-XXXX: I didn't agree to be here. You forced me to do this so I wouldn't starve.

Dr. Reedmin: Actually, we would have fed you either way. We simply needed some motivation for you to be co-operative. But now that you're seated, I'd like to ask you some questions.

XXXX: If it gets me out of this chair and fed again, then fire away. But make it quick.

Dr. Reedmin: I'll do my best. So, first question. Is there a name you prefer to go by? Do you adopt the name of the person you shift to?

XXXX: Well, if I've shifted into a man, I normally prefer the name Jamie. It has a nice ring to it. But usually I'll just take the name of the person, keep my story air-tight.

Dr. Reedmin: Very good. Next question, then. You seem to have the ability to live as long as you like, so long as you have a source of food. How long have you been around?

XXXX: Hmm. I'd say some odd 2000 years or so. You things just keep getting bigger and bigger, so I never really run out of food. If you hadn't gotten smarter, I'd still be out living my life, too.

Dr. Reedmin: Well, we have our reasons for detaining you. Mainly, it is because we have deemed you as a danger to society, and therefor, you need to be kept secured.

XXXX: Danger? Danger? Dangerous.... Very dangerous...

The subject, at this point in time, had begun rambling off different variations of the word "Dangerous". Several languages were used to repeat the word, and Dr. Reedmin believed it was time to cut the interview short. Dr. Reedmin left the chamber, and the subject was once again isolated..

Dr: No matter how many I talk to it, I always seem to leave underwhelmed...

The Doctor appeared a bit disappointed, but satisfied that any interaction had been achieved.

Closing statement from Dr. Reedmin: I am quite surprised by the level of interaction SCP-XXXX puts forward. Though, no significant breakthrough has been established. All-in-all, not a very productive interview, but at least we learned something.

Magnetic Resilience Test - August ██, 20██

Subject: SCP-XXXX

Procedure: SCP-XXXX has been relocated to an empty room, and was instructed to remain seated. It was supplied with a small bit of food to keep it docile, then locked in said room. On the outside of each wall sat a large, circular electronic magnet, each roughly 1.██ meters across. The magnets were set to give off small pulses, each starting at .█ seconds long, and increasing at a rate of .5 seconds. This is continued until SCP-XXXX shows a significant reaction, or the test is deemed as a failure.

Results: The results of the test are somewhat interesting. When the pulse length reached █0 seconds long, there was a sudden, immediate reaction for SCP-XXXX. The "shift" it was currently in, that of Prof.█████, who conducted the test, began to change. Its body began to alternate between the "shift" and it's standard grey form rapidly, before finally stopping on its standard form. By this time, SCP-XXXX seemed to be frozen still, unable to move or respond to any auditory or visual stimulus. The test was concluded at that point, as Prof.█████ did not want to actually harm SCP-XXXX. After a few moments, SCP-XXXX regained its ability to move, but could not revert to the human "shift" it used before. SCP-XXXX was returned to it's Containment Unit and given a large meal and an extra book series to read.

Analysis: The reaction of SCP-XXXX to the magnets indicated that they are a crucial weak point in its structure. If it were to escape and disguise itself as an employee or an average person, we now know a strong, steady magnetic force can cause its "shift" to dissipate. Consider contacting site supervisors and having electromagnets installed permanently at the exit doors of the site, in the event of a breach.

Personal Log - April ██, 20██

Subject: SCP-XXXX

Dr.Reedmin: As per usual, I seem to be given the most mentally distressing aspects of containment. The current subject has been labeled as SCP-XXXX, and I'm beginning to think that this was assigned to me as some sort of punishment.

Day 1 of analysis began with a basic through-window observation of the subject. I was ordered to keep observation of them for a 96 hour period, avoiding sleep for as long as I could manage. Thankfully the facility has a near bottomless supply of coffee, so that wasn't much of an issue.

Almost immediately upon observing me through the window, SCP-XXXX somehow shifted it's body to mirror me entirely, down to the finest details. At least, that I could observe from a distance. After my initial distress wore down, I immediately documented my thoughts. I assume the shifting works almost like a wireless signal. Something in the subjects body reaches out to the body of the individual it observes, and the signal moves through the body like echo-location, mapping out the makeup of the person and returning to SCP-XXXX. Further testing may be necessary to prove my theory.

24 Hours in: For the first 24 hours, things seem fine. I have been permitted to supply it with a single novel to read, and it did just that. Nothing of note otherwise.

48 Hours in: Things seem to have taken a turn, very slightly. The subject has shown some signs of rapid aging in it's face and hair color, with the skin around it's eyes and mouth beginning to wrinkle slowly. The subjects hair has also begun to turn grey. Another novel has been supplied, and the subject seems complacent. Nothing of note otherwise.

72 Hours in: We have hit a decline. I managed to accidentally doze off for a few hours, but the issues did not begin during my sleep. It was around the 65 hour mark that the subject had begun to show signs of distress. The body had continued to age rapidly, and SCP-XXXX has started pacing around the room, looking for any method of escape. The hair has gone almost completely white, and the skin has sagged substantially. The aging process seems to be taking a mental toll on the subject and, if I'm being honest, myself.

93 Hours in: We have begun to see rapid decay, and I am not sure how to properly describe what I've seen.

94 Hours in: At about the 94 hour mark, the subject began wildly scratching and slamming against the walls of it's containment, damaging the body and ripping skin off as it did so. Do note, however, that there was no sign of blood.

95 Hours in: At 95 hours, the skin began to fall off of the body rapidly, decaying at a massively accelerated rate as it fell to the floor and the subjects movements slowed. By the time the majority of the skin and hair had fallen off, the plastic-like surface had been re-exposed to vision. This time, however, it seemed sun-bleached, as thought it had turned yellow from decades under direct sunlight.

96 Hours in: At the exact moment the 96 hour mark hit, the last bit of fallen skin seemed to have turned to dust entirely, and the mannequin was now slowly trying to find its way out. This will conclude our testing for the week.

Dr.Reedmins Conclusion: This test has proven to not only be taxing on the subject, but on my own mental state as well. Witnessing yourself age to the point of death over the span of 4 short days is not something I would wish on anyone, and I believe I am going to request the use of two vacation days in order to mentally bounce back. My research and ideas shall be left in a document with Prof.█████ until I return.
