Kiyomi watched, only a touch nervously as Hotaru took a moment to contemplate the clothes that she had offered up. Were none of them to her liking? Hotaru was a lot taller than she was, and she seemed to be contemplating the shirt the most, so maybe Kiyomi could ask her dad about borrowing one of his? Before she could ask Hotaru about it the taller girl scooped up the nightgown with a bit of a dubious look on her face.

If its too tight around the middle you can loosen the ribbon around the waist.” She said, brightly, hoping to reassure her friend. “And it’s just for tonight anyway, next time it won’t be a surprise so you can bring your own!” She also added with a smile. She was rather hopeful that things would go well enough tonight that Hotaru would want to do another sleepover, she hadn’t dont one in so long!

Oh, right! You can use the bathroom down the hall.” Kiyomi said, stepping over to the doorway and poking her head so she could point to a door at the end of the hallway. “If you need anything just call.” Hotaru directed Kiyomi stepped back to her bed and picked up the pink gown she had decided against offering Taru.

Once we’re changed we can raid the kitchen for snacks and watch a movie or something.” She said, bouncing on her heels.

Taru nodded, and with that, headed off down the hall to the bathroom. The moment she was inside, she sat down on the seat of the toilet and looked at the delicate dress in her hands. She swallowed hard and pushed her hair back out of her face. Maybe she could have just gone with the shirt. After all, it would have made her more comfortable in the long run. Even if it wasn’t the girly choice.

Even as she was thinking it, her dad’s voice rang out in her head. “If you aren’t feminine then you’ll never find someone. If you’re not feminine, people won’t want to be around you. No one wants to be friends with a girl who acts like a boy, even less to be partners with that kind of person.”

She took in a deep breath and quickly changed from her uniform and into the dress. It hit her mid thigh, just a little high for her liking, but she could deal with that. She took a look in the mirror. The girl who looked back was playing the part she was supposed to, despite the discomfort on her face. She adjusted the waist ribbon to be looser on her-- just enough as was acceptable-- and she headed back to the bedroom. When she got there, she knocked softly, not wanting to walk in on Kiyomi changing. Even the idea made her flush a little and shift back away from the door,.

This was going to be fun! She hadn’t had a friend over in forever, since before she was a witch maybe? No, she had a friend over after a school festival once but that was forever ago. That just meant the two of them needed to make the most of tonight, right? She did have that one horror movie she’d been psyching herself out of watching, so that was probably a good start.

Kiyomi pulled off her uniform, tossing it first into a messy rumble on her bed. This lasted a few seconds before Kiyomi thought better of it and folded her uniform, so hopefully Taru wouldn’t think she was a total slob or anything. Oh, since this was all spur of the moment Taru didn’t have anything to wear tomorrow either, so maybe they should just put the uniforms on to wash tonight?

Oh, Kiyomi said, as a quick knock pulled her out of her thoughts. “Sorry, just one minute!” She called, plucking up her own nightgown, quickly pulling it over her head. She attacked the wrinkles around her side with the back of her hand as she stepped over to the door and pulled it open. Kiki bounced on her heels again, a wide smile splitting her lips. Taru was cute, but did it fit her… vibe? Atmosphere?

I say we grab some snacks from downstairs and then put on something spooky to watch.” she said, cheerily, with her best devilish grin. “Sound good?

Taru set the uniform in her hands down, folded neatly, next to Kyomi’s. She looked up at the girl’s grin, smiling in response. Something about it was infectious, contagious, and it pulled her in. She felt her shoulders pull up slightly in her silent laughter as she nodded her head in agreement. A scary movie sounded fun! Taru loved scary movies. Not many other girls did, but she found them fascinating, especially slashers and monster flicks.

She smoothed the dress out nervously, slightly thoughtlessly, and she gave a big nod in final response to Kiyomi’s suggestion. Then, she pointed toward the door and made a deep bowing gesture, one that almost raised her dress’s hem too high in the back as she did so. It was all as if to say, I will follow after you, then. Lead the way!

She straightened back up, her flop of hair obscuring part of her face. If she’d had her way, she would cut away the sides, shaving them so only the flop of long hair across the top remained. Then it would mostly be out of the way, and it would look the way she wanted. But once again, she saw her father’s stern look at her even mentioning the idea. She pushed the hair back, her smile falling away slightly, before she pushed it back into place. He wouldn’t ruin this for her. He wasn’t there. He couldn’t ruin it for her.

I say we put on something reaaaally scare and the fist one to jump loses.” Kiyomi said, a bounce in her step as she backed out into the hallway. For a moment Kiyomi’s eyes are captivated by the swish of Hotaru’s hair as the other girl straightens, and Kiyomi could feel the skin along the back of her neck prickling. She grinned, her eyes darting away as she suddenly felt very self aware that she might have been staring. It was just that Taru's hair was pretty, right? And, she has really long long legs and —

We could also put a blanket up over the window so the room could get really dark!” She said, neatly sidestepping the collection of thoughts before the blush could make its way up her neck and to her cheeks. Instead of worrying further, Kiyomi reached out to hook an arm around Taru’s before leading the way across the hall and down the stairs to the kitchen. Kiyomi slid free of Taru’s arm as she slid a cabinet door open. She bent over, scooting around a few cans of soup as she looked around for where her goal had been hidden.

If you see anything you like, feel free to take it.” Kiyomi said, her lips pursing for a moment before a little ‘ah ha escaped her as she triumphantly extracted a bag of microwaveable popcorn. “Should be some juice in the fridge too.” She added, looking up at Taru with a bright smile.

Taru followed after Kiyomi, letting the other girl’s excitement infect her and fill her with glee. She kept her arm hooked through hers until they arrived at the pantry, where Kiyomi immediately began searching through the cabinet for snacks. Taru looked it over with her upper teeth sunk into her lower lip softly, grey eyes scanning the entire outlay.

After a minute of searching, she found a couple packs of instant noodles, and casually sorted through them, looking at the different flavors. They had the classic flavors, like chicken and beef, and a few of the more interesting ones like lime and shrimp, but not the one she was looking for. She hesitated for a moment before she turned to Kiyomi and started signing, I don’t suppose you have any spicy noodles? If not, it’s okay! I just tend toward spicier foods.

She gave a bit of sheepish smile as she finished, rubbing the back of her neck as her cheeks turned a little pink. She looked back into the cabinet, as if to emphasize that it wasn’t a big deal if they didn’t have what she was looking for. She would eat just about anything, if she were honest. Her dad had forced a lot of different foods on to her from a young age, determined to make sure she’d eat anything no matter where they went. His job had required her to attend a lot of business dinners. But that had been before-- No. No need to think about that right then.

Hmm, something spicy?” Kiyomi said, rocking back on her heel so she could take in the whole of the pantry in aggregate. Her eyes narrowed, scanning along the neat stacks of cans and packages (well they had been neater before the whole raiding the cabinet expedition got going) for something that could catch her eye. There was a prepackaged curry roux that was spicy but that would involve cooking which to her mind was the opposite of a snack. Snacks should be something quick and bad for you; you shouldn’t need to prepare potatoes for a snack. Kiyomi rolled back forward onto the balls of her feet, poking her nose around the tub of prepackaged noodles to see if there was a package that had attempted an escape to the back of the cabinet where food liked to curl up and desiccate rather than submit with the whole indignity of getting eaten.

She rested her hands on her hips as she gave a disappointed little hum. A flash of inspiration flickered in her gray eyes as she bounced back up to her tippy toes so she could check out the top shelf. “We might have some spicy chips up here” she said, though it was more of a mumble to herself than it was directed at Hotaru. It took her a second to find a bag of sweet and spicy chips, and she turned towards Hotaru with a broad grin as she plucked it off the shelf. The grin didn’t last long, the bag was light, and she didn’t need to open it to know it contained only crumbs. Her shoulders slumped with the setback but she couldn’t let it end here. She wouldn’t let it end here! She looked back up at Hotaru, a determined gleam in her eye.

Okay, so we don't have anything spicy on hand, buuuuut hope isn’t lost.” She grinned, “There's a corner store that’s a like five minute walk and they have a lot of noodles.” She tossed the chips back into the cabinet, a disappointment trap for whoever came looking for something salty after they had gone. She offered up her elbow.

So how about we drop by there, get way too much, then come back to watch something spooky?
