It was Hematite’s day at the bar. It was still early, so neither Lapis nor Onyx had clocked in yet, at a mere four thirty in the afternoon. There were already several people milling about, drinks in hand as they started their weekend early. For once, the quiet didn’t bother him. Normally, he didn’t like working the early shift, but he was still aching from the fight with that kid a few weeks ago. He was happy for an excuse to be behind the counter, without the usual thrumming music that his wife provided.
A lack of music meant plenty of overhearing the customers as they talked, however. It meant plenty of interactions with the bar goers. Already, several of the clients were sloshed, and making conversation with him, telling him all their concerns and successes. He smiled, bounced off them with jokes or sympathies. It was as much his job as actually mixing the drinks. Acting as a therapist was a common bartender skill, and one he’d been familiar with after years of working at the Emerald.
Just another day working at the Diamond, all things considered.
