Interview: Venus Votticelli-Smith

Venus nods along with the list of duties they give her, jotting down a short list so that she can consider it all. Her opposite hand drifts a little as she does, revealing her drawing from earlier. Something about it tickles at the back of her mind, an itch stemming from something Dr. Winick had said earlier.

“That makes sense.” It’s a filler statement. Venus stares at her drawing for another moment, trying to coax the thought into coherence.

“Um. If there are, that is to say-” she takes a breath, looking up finally and glancing between the interviewers. “You said there was an actual spherical cow earlier, does that mean there are anomalous animals here? Not just objects?”

Because that’s an important question, isn’t it? There’s a difference between poking at wood and stone and poking at some poor creature just trying to live. And if there are animals then, well, what’s the next logical step there?

The gears are still turning. Venus feels a little of her excitement slow, and she isn’t sure which of them to focus her attention on. Dr. Winick, who’s been giving her plenty of questions and answers and information to consider, or Mr. Cotta with his armor and helmet and shield - and what does he need those for?

"We have a host of anomalous creatures, yes. Some classified as animals, or plants, or... insects. The butterflies are fun. You have a few of those here, don't you?" The last inquiry was directed more towards Agent Cotta, but it wouldn't be more than a brief moment for confirmation before Dr. Winick returned his attention to the interviewee once more.

"Some more along the lines of something you'd read about in a work of fiction - some of them can be quite frightening, and quite dangerous." That was why security was a necessity, not just a place to shove people who didn't care to be researchers. Dr. Winick opened his hand a little bit, then added, in the same calm teaching-tone: "And yes, some human."

She was going to get there anyway, and Dr. Winick wasn't going to be rude and make her ask. "Some of whom are also staff members and you will undoubtedly meet." Others were decidedly not staff members and were a danger to themselves and others, but Cotta could bring that up if he wanted to, since that was more of an Agency side of things.
