Powers and Abilities
Possessing no in-born metahuman abilities, Harrison’s superheroic talents are derived entirely from technology of his own design. In what appears to be a complete violation of the laws of physics, the Hornet can reduce his size to that of an insect, or potentially even smaller. The size-altering circuitry is contained entirely within his costume, making it impossible for him to shrink others, although he can miniaturize inanimate objects within his immediate proximity.
While miniaturized, the Hornet’s costume sprouts a pair of insect-like wings which grant him the power of flight, owing to his reduced mass at that size. While he can deploy the wings at full size, they are incapable of supporting that much weight.
Originally developed in order to protect himself from aggressive insectoid predators, who are much more dangerous when one is of an equivalent size to them, Harrison’s costume includes a pheromone deployment system which can be used to crudely manipulate the simple minds of bugs like wasps, bees, and of course hornets. These pheromone capsules can enrage the bugs, causing them to aggressively attack the nearest target, or calm them down when combat is over.
Paraphernalia
In addition to his costume, the Hornet brings a variety of technological tricks into battle with him. The most notable of these are his Stingers, advanced energy weapons which can be used to stun, irritate, and incapacitate foes. Unlike conventional ballistic weapons, the efficacy of these blasters is unaltered when shrunken down, as the energy charge conducted by their bolts is the same whether the Stingers are miniaturized or not.
Harrison’s signature red-lensed goggles are more than just a fashion statement. They provide him with Spectra-Vision, a technology derived from careful study of insectoid eyes, which allow him to visualize pheromone trails in the air- useful for tracking -as well as thermal vision that can see through walls, and a telescopic lens function which lets the Hornet ‘zoom in’ on even the smallest of objects at a distance. The goggles are also equipped with a camera function, which Harrison uses to record his heroic exploits as a member of the Power Company.
