Mary bit her tongue, holding back the cruel words that rose to her mind when Todd talked about not being a dog. She wanted to say, 'Then fuck off, cause I ain't got no need for a lone wolf.' But she stopped herself. Todd was a friend, he hadn't ever done anything to harm her or her own. So he didnt' deserve her vitriol.
Instead, she just smiled as he finished speaking. He seemed, sad. Maybe he really did want to join Mary, but he didn't think he would belong? Mary wanted to argue with that idea, tell him that he would always have a place with her- but maybe he wasn't ready to hear the full rant yet. Reaching out, she set a hand on his shoulder and responded softly,
"I getcha, I understand. Well, if you's ever need a fam, I'm here for you's."
Right as the last words left her mouth, the doors behind her opened. Inside, half a dozen heavily armed men and women sat around a steel table set up in the lobby of the old building. The woman who opened the door, a Russian by her facial structure, accent, and Russian flags adorning her tacticool gear, spoke, "Хозяйка, we wait for you."
Smiling, Mary stepped away from Todd and waved goodbye, "Work calls bae! Cya 'round!"
