Investigation One: Swiped Shirts and Chance Meetings
Glass shattered with a crystalline crunch and a gloved hand pushed its way through the gap sending jagged shards tumbling to the ground. The hand pawed it’s way along the inside of the door, the sound muted by the soft leather as it searched for the lock, each moment drawing its fingers closer. A young woman stood at the threshold to the kitchen, the palm of her hand pressed tight against her lips. She took a step back as the lock turned with a heavy ’clunk’, before pivoting on her heel and dashing back into the depths of the house vanishing from view.
The hinges on the kitchen door squealed as it was pushed open with an agonizing slowness. A knife passed first through the crack, followed soon by a black mass covered in a tattered leather trench coat. A white mask filled the frame as the scratching of violin strings rose to its peak before cutting to black.
The clubroom was momentarily washed in dark, causing Akina to glance up from her book to the dull glow of the TV. The nib of her pen scratched across a sheet of notebook paper as she placed a few stray thoughts into ink. Her gaze flicked back down to the table as the scene flipped to the interior of a closet, once more filling the space with a pale glow. An array of half-opened snacks, from a bag of spicy popcorn to a box of pocky sat in the center of the table next to a camcorder which she had clearly been fiddling with not too long ago. Books filled out the remainder of the table, anything from a calculus book that looked like it hadn’t been cracked, to an earmarked volume about Chinese folklore, to another about shot composition.
Dropping her pen, Akina leaned back in her seat. The woman screamed as the wood of her closet door crunched. A cramped shot of her face, and the flash of the knife. Akina brought her fingers to her lips as she yawned. Another successful Friday afternoon meeting of the club. Maybe it would be a good change of pace to head out of Tokyo for the weekend? Or, perhaps poke her nose through the movie selection in the library, mix things up some.
Something she should likely figure out before this evening rolled around. Idly she rolled a lock of hair around her finger as the movie carried on, she needed to do something, she couldn’t just keep lazing around hoping that a lead would come knocking on her door.
Wouldn't be much of a club if all she did was sit around and watch slashers, would it? Though, with those thoughts still lingering Akina leaned back forward. This was the best part of the movie, after all.
